The largest charitable gift most donors can make is almost always an
"end-of-life" gift, or planned gift. The average planned
gift nationally is about $50,000.
Planned giving is not just for wealthy donors or
large charities. Rather, planned giving provides an outstanding
opportunity for charities of all sizes -- large and small -- to raise
large gifts from their donors, including middle class donors.
Charities who fail to
actively seek planned gifts from their constituents are missing out on
huge potential gifts. Contrary to some popular opinion, a
charitable organization does not need a lot of technical expertise to
successfully develop these gifts.
John Elbare, CFP, the Founder of Florida Philanthropic
Advisors, LLC, is well-known as the Planned Giving Coach. He helps
many charities develop effective systems for raising planned gifts from
their donors, volunteers and members.
